Arts

Music, painting, performance, sculpture, storytelling, poetry, and other methods of artistic expression are ancient methods of creating communities. Art and creativity speak to humans on a deeper level than words alone, bringing people together and make it easier to promote peace. By sharing creative expression, people are able to appreciate the differences as well as the similarities between cultures, to appreciate each other as individuals in spite of harmful stereotypes, and to come together to heal the scars left from ethnic and religious violence. Through the arts, URI Cooperation Circles can more easily transcend language barriers and other boundaries, and true peacebuilding connections can begin.
