Environment

URI's Preamble, Purpose and Principles include the phrase, "We unite to heal and protect the Earth." This is an essential part of URI’s work because so many conflicts between cultures arise from a scarcity of shared resources. By uniting to solve ecological problems through cooperation instead of violence, we can also find literal common ground, since every member of every faith tradition shares a planet and depends on necessities like clean water to survive.

Examples of Cooperation Circles’ environmental work includes:

  • installing solar panels on the roofs of houses of worship;
  • ensuring that rural communities have access to clean water for drinking and sanitation;
  • educating communities about renewable energy and environmental sustainability methods;
  • helping farmers retain the rights to their farmland when corporations and mining companies try to take the land;
  • reforestation and native species planting in ecologically sensitive areas;
  • climate change awareness campaigns.
