Interfaith and Intercultural Understanding and Dialogue

Interfaith and Intercultural Understanding and Dialogue

All URI Cooperation Circles are groups composed of at least seven members of at least three different religions or faith traditions (including those of no faith tradition). Therefore, interfaith and intercultural understanding is key to URI’s mission. By respecting the differences and embracing the commonalities between groups, peacebuilders are able to build bridges of understanding, and each Cooperation Circle is able to stand as an example of people who, despite different beliefs, can work together in harmony.

Examples of this type of work include:

  • hosting interfaith gatherings so people belonging to different religions and traditions can meet each other and learn about each other’s lives;
  • creating safe spaces for people to ask and answer questions about each other’s traditions;
  • organizing educational visits to multiple types of houses of worship; and
  • celebrating worldwide interfaith events such as World Interfaith Harmony Week.
