Poverty Alleviation/Economic Opportunity

Conflicts arise in areas where resources and opportunities are scarce, and desperate competition pits neighbors against each other. URI Cooperation Circles work in these areas to address the roots of the conflict so that everyone has access to increased opportunities, which restores peace to the communities.

Examples of this peacebuilding work include:

  • giving guidance to people who wish to start small businesses of benefit to their communities;
  • starting microloan projects that give even the poorest members of society opportunities to achieve economic independence;
  • providing career training for women who would otherwise be trapped in abusive situation;
  • and providing education and many more services that uplift people living in poverty.
