URI Youth Aotearoa’s purpose is to engage youth and young professionals from all religious and spiritual traditions and to promote and espouse the principles and vision of URI through our interaction and action. URI Youth Aotearoa’s activities thus far include involvement in interfaith forums and workshops across the country, collaborating with the existing Cooperation Circle in New Zealand on their Education in Schools Initiative, helping to organize Pilgrimage Tours of our holy and sacred sites, attending Holy and Cultural Festivals from the different religious and spiritual communities, proactively creating projects on the environment, supporting charities, poverty, as well as organizing peace vigils or prayer vigils in reaction to world events. They have also been the driving force behind keeping young people in New Zealand engaged in interfaith work, promoting United Religions Initiative and its work, promoting the Charter of Compassion Initiative and initiatives promoted by the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions including the 12 Steps to a Compassionate Life Reading Groups, participating in events recognizing key International United Nations Days, and supporting the Jane Goodall Institute and Roots for Shoots program in New Zealand as part of their environmental work focus.
