Mr. Asher Nazir, Executive Secretary URI Pakistan, participated as a panelist in a soul-scratching debate on the topic of “The Role of Civil Society in Promoting Peace and Harmony.” Ms. Asifa Sheikh, President of Amman Pukar Foundation and Mr. Mohsin Hashmi, Director of Amman Pukar Foundation, organized this program on 18th December, 2017 at the Grand Palm Hotel in Lahore.

The respectable guests presented their selected words to the audience and enlightened them in a quick ransom that had no parallel. Madam Asifa Shaikh, President Amman Pukar Foundation, welcomed all presented a note of thanks. Later, Mr. Mohsin Hashmi, Director Amman Pukar, presented his proselyte diction to help uphold the sanctity of inter-religious harmony and the probable peace that it can bring.

Madam Syeda Diep from Institute for Peace and Secular Studies (IPSS) related her inspirational story about how a girl from a Syed family was named as Diep, which is a Hindu name; the story proved to be heart-touching for the audience.

Mr. Irfan Mufti from South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAPP) presented a historical perspective of all the current intolerance and issues that infest our society. He even brought to light how religion is largely used for political gains today and to what heinous degree it has rooted itself and has troubled us.

Following him, Miss Zainab Jaffery also acclaimed the input by other speakers and gave her share of wisdom on the topic.

Moreover, Mr. Asher Nazir, Executive Secretary URI Pakistan, presented some of the facts that were eye openers for all the audience and that really stirred the debate and brought it to a further level.

Before the poster-signing activity, the audience asked questions to further enlighten them on the sensitive topic. The program ended with a socializing activity coupled with tea. Thirty-five male and female participants in all attended from indifferent organizations, institutions, and universities. Ms. Asmara Daud, youth trainer for URI Pakistan, also participated in this event.
