International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace is designated by the UN as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The global URI community comes together to celebrate this occasion in many ways every year.

A #PeaceDay message from URI Executive Director Victor Kazanjian and URI-Africa Director Mussie Hailu. May Peace Prevail on Earth!

Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981, the International Day of Peace – or “Peace Day” – was declared as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. URI has been a proud partner of International Day of Peace since our network's inception in 2000.

URI's International Day of Peace observations are marked by various activities and events ranging from peace walks to concerts, as well as art showcases, community outreach and peace education programs.

This year, URI is working with UNIFY to track #PeaceDay events taking place around the world! URI will also be featured in UNIFY's 72-hour World Peace Broadcast, which kicks off on September 21st.

URI's broadcast segment will go live on September 23rd, at 2pm (Pacific Time).
