In 2007, April 5 was declared as “Golden Rule Day” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Each year we are reminded to proclaim the day and live every day according to the teaching of the Golden Rule in order to make our world better and more peaceful for all.
The Golden Rule is needed more than ever as the basis for peaceful co-existence, compassion, social justice, and human dignity. In over 4,000 religions, spiritual expressions, and indigenous traditions, the Golden Rule is present.
It also is embraced by people of diverse secular identities. In our interrelated world, the Golden Rule calls us to understand the uniqueness of each one of us so that our hearts will open and our minds will understand the depth of our call as human beings living in the 21st century.
