Argentina Celebrates Day of Prayer and Action for Children

Nobel Peace Laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel with the GNRC Argentina Steering Committee

It is a pleasure to be in contact with you in the vigil of the World Celebration of the Day of Prayer and Action for Childhood. This is an interfaith event sponsored by the Global Network of Religions in favor of Childhood with global reach.

In Argentina, the Project direction is done by the Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI), United Religions Initiative, Catholic Episcopal Conference, Bahai Assembly, Sokka Gakkai Foundation and the Service Peace and Justice. It started its activities in 2006 with youth from La Matanza, Burzaco, Ezeiza y Pilar with workshops promoting a Culture of Peace in diversity. 120 young men and women from the following organizations: Pilar : La Aldea de Jóvenes

participate in monthly workshops

Each November 20th, remembering the Convention of Rights for Children we celebrate the Day of Prayer and Action. 102 countries of all continents that participate of GNRC network invite the community and religious leaders from different religions to join youth to pray from diverse backgrounds for children and to generate actions so that the Rights of Children are made visible in all countries .

In 2010 and having in mind that it is the 30th anniversary of Don Adolfo Pérez Esquivel receiving the Nobel Peace Award (Don Adolfo Pérez Esquivel participates of the program) it is Pilar that will host this important interfaith Celebration. It will take place in Plaza 12 de Octubre, Pilar, on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 20TH FROM 2-4 PM. This event will show what the youth has worked about the Rights of Children

Agenda:
2:00pm: Animation: Street band by Youth from La Matanza.
2:30 pm: GNRC ARGENTINA presentation.
2:40: Interfaith Prayer. Religious Representatives will elevate a prayer from their religious backgrounds.
3:00 pm: “Rights Stands” : the people present will interact with GNRC youth execising the Right to Participate, Right to Play (tradicional games), Right to participate in Sports ( mini-volleyball, football tennis, ping pong), the Right to express (crafts), Right to the Imagination (juggling, circus, climbing)
4:30 pm: Street band presentation by youth from La Matanza with an invitation to everybody to participate and learn steps.
5:00 pm: Video Conference with participants of other GNRC initiatives around the world.
5:30 pm: Theatre show by GNRC Argentina youth to reflect about freedom, justice, fraternity and rights.
6:00 pm: “Teknon”- Street art exhibition by Villa Astolfi, Pilar.
7:00 hs: Colourful musical street band and all participants committing to ACTIONS for RIGHTS FOR CHILDREN.

It is important to remark that in the stand “Right to Participate”, some of our youth and adults from the Local Pilar Council will have the opportunity to show their work given that this is the only Council in Buenos Aires Province that incluyes the voice of youth in their deliberations since 2009 in their monthly meetings.
