URI North India Celebrates International Women's Day 2011

11 March 2011

International Women’s Day, held annually on March 8, is a global day of celebration of women and their achievements in the present and in history. We had a great celebration of International Women's Day at the URI Regional Office in New Delhi. This celebration was a salute to the power of the women from the family of URI North Zone, India. There were over 180 women present at this fabulous occasion. A lot of the program involved school children. Prizes were distributed. There was also a discussion on national and regional decision-making structures, revealing that despite women’s increased labour market activity and educational achievements, the balance of power remains with men.

This celebration was a step towards changing the mentality of our society and appreciating the  great work of women and showing our support.
