Dear URI Community,

This is to introduce to you Charlotte Eisenberg, who is our first international volunteer from the EIRENE organization in Germany. Charlotte comes to URI as a result of the discussion at the Global Council and Staff Meeting in 2009, about a volunteer program between Karimah and I, which was then effected by Karimah.  She is 29 years old and has a masters in Protestant theology. She has been in Uganda for the last 8 months working with one of the local community based organizations in Western Uganda. She likes travelling and getting to know different cultures and has been living and working in Ireland and Argentina for some time and decided to come to Uganda to work as a volunteer. She also likes art, dance and literature.

"Now I am very happy to have joined URI-GL, looking forward to supporting the great work URI is doing in this region. I have always been interested in intercultural, interreligious and ecumenical exchange and have been active in various initiatives that promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence in Germany, mainly with youth. For me this is a special challenge that we have to face in a globalized world. Only with comprehensive understanding of and deep respect for different perspectives, beliefs and ways of life we can fight violent conflict and help create a peaceful world," she says.

Charlotte is expected to be with us for about 4 months or more depending on her upcoming work schedules.  Please join me into welcoming her to our office and the entire URI global community.

In peace,

Despina
