Greetings of Peace from Kenya,
URI Foundation Kenya celebrated International Day of Peace on Sunday, September 25 from 2-4pm. Over 100 people from diverse communities attended this programme at Bahai Centre. Five CC members participated. Since this year's theme was Youth and Democracy, we focused more on youth participation. The youths from the Bahai, Sikh, Christian, Hare Krishna, Hindu, Muslium, offered devotional Prayers, talked about how youths can be instrumental in promoting peace in the world.
One minute's silence was observed for the victims of the Sinai slums in Nairobi, whereby 120 people were burnt to death due to leekage of superpetrol in the pipeline that passes through the slums. I spoke about the challenges of Peace in the world and urged the youths to be ambassadors of peace in their communities and promote peace during General Elections of Kenya in 2012. MR.Hamed Esani, the former URI Trustee, read the message from the Director of UNESCO.
Refreshment were served.
