URI Netherlands Celebrates Its First Decade

17 April 2013

URI Netherlands will celebrate the first decade of two of its most active Cooperation Circles with a series of anniversary events beginning April 26.

The Stichting Interreligieus Beraad Segbroek (Foundation Interreligious Council Segbroek) Cooperation Circle works to enhance peaceful coexistence in the multicultural and multireligious district of Segbroek within the Dutch city of The Hague, while the URI Netherlands Steering Committee CC works to organize and coordinate activities for interfaith dialogue and understanding throughout the nation while supporting the work of other Cooperation Circles.

The celebration will begin with a special reception from 2:45 to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at the Municipal Museum, Stadhouderslaan 41 in The Hague.  The event will include short presentations of music, film and poetry as well as a tour of the museum, which includes works by many of the Dutch masters.  Delegations from Bulgaria and the Netherlands will take part in the event.

In addition, IBS Segbroek CC will host “Bridges,” a meeting between long-time residents of Segbroek and many of the district’s newcomers – particularly those of Bulgarian origin – on Saturday, April 27. The event, which will include a dialogue and buffet, will take place at 4:30 Saturday at Beeklaan 173 in The Hague.

The two Cooperation Circles will celebrate ten years of URI in the Netherlands with “URI With Peace and Future Parts” on Sunday, April 28.  The anniversary event will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Beeklaan 188. The events will conclude on May 5 with “The Past and the Future Parts,” an inter-philosophical liberation celebration. That event will take place at 11 a.m. at Beeklaan 188.
