Art Show Continues…and A Scholastic Achievement

28 April 2015

Itina Guidry is the visual artist and creator of Designer Diva Dolls. In A Doll's Life, the gallery at Our House is proud to showcase Ms. Guidry's work. Itina is a self taught artist who resides in Stafford, Texas. Some of her artistic skills and work includes: drawing, painting, stage backdrop designs and prop designs. However, she has found her passion with her dolls. Most of Guidry's painting were of human figures and it inspired her to create more tangible work. Going from the canvas to fashion art dolls.

Itina explains, "While working with this new media (fabric), I have learned that unlike paint, which allows room for error, fabric spares less space. Cutting and measuring the fabric has to be more exact, Painting the features on my dolls needs to be done with precision. If paint were to smear on the fabric, there is no other way to fix it. Designing dolls has taught me to be patient in the creative process."

Artist Talk begins on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Our House, 2501 Holman Street, Houston, TX 77004. For more information, contact Curator P. K. McCary at 713.485.9214.

Every other Saturday, Our House will host an artist. Stay tune for more information on upcoming gallery showings.

A SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT

NOAH'S WALKS helps children LOVE reading

This month, Noah’s Walk has been added to the Phyllis C. Hunter Classroom Libraries becoming part of the Scholastic Reading Club, both organizations dedicated to creating strong and avid readers in children. Scholastic is the largest publisher and distributor of children’s books in the world and now Noah’s Walk has the opportunity to reach millions of children around the world.

Noah’s Walk is just beginning its journey. The journey is generational, teaching children and their children’s children that civic engagement is something everyone can do. With that, the world can be a much better place.

Join Noah and Nekisha at Our House on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2501 Holman Street, Houston, Texas at 3 p.m. The artists’ talk begins at 3:30 p.m.  Noah and Nekisha will talk about the next phase of Noah’s Walk and how you can bring Noah and Nekisha to your school or organization.
