At a dinner celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, I noticed URI President’s Council member and former United States Secretary of State George Shultz engaged in a conversation with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
As I approached them, Secretary Shultz introduced me to Secretary General Moon, saying, “This is the executive director of an organization that you need to know about. It’s called the United Religions Initiative and they are doing great things all over the world bringing people of different religions together to work for peace.”
They talked about the important work of URI, and I mostly listened, interjecting only to celebrate the work of our amazing United Nations Team and their work on the International Day of Peace and Interfaith Harmony Week.
It was a wonderful moment for me to witness the work of so many URI people in Cooperation Circles all over the world being identified by these two global leaders as essential to the future of our planet and all who inhabit it - a statement with which I wholeheartedly agree.
