URI Africa Calls for Care and Compassion on World Refugee Day

20 June 2016

Greetings of peace and blessing from URI-Africa.

Today (June 20) is World Refugee Day and on this day URI-Africa calls for compassion, human dignity, care, protection, assistance, safe places to live, education, opportunity, and better lives for refugees everywhere.

On the occasion of World Refugee Day, URI-Africa would like to express its commitment to collaborate with governments, intergovernmental, non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, community-based organizations, religious leaders, faith based organizations and the private sector to protect and assist refugees and pursue durable solutions.

URI-Africa also would like to take this opportunity to commends the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for its leadership and coordination of international action for refugees, and acknowledges the tireless efforts of the Office of the High Commissioner and to all organizations which are working to provide protection and assistance to refugees and to promote durable solutions for their problems.

As you know, World Refugee Day is celebrated every year on June 20 to support millions of families all over the world who have lost their homes and dear ones because of violence or war. The day was established by the General Assembly of United Nations to honor refugees for their courage in the face of many problems, losing their homes due to conflict or violence, and their contributions to their new communities. Marking World Refugee Day provides an opportunity to all to help the refugees worldwide to rebuild their lives through concerted efforts and activities.

Let us treat refugees the way we want to be treated.

May Peace Prevail on Earth
