Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights organized an inter-religious harmony ceremony to extend wishes of peace to the Christian community. “Christians [the religious minority] are Pakistanis as well as Muslims and deserve equal rights as guaranteed in the Constitution of Pakistan, as well as according to Islamic teachings,” community leaders said in the ceremony.
They also emphasized the importance of the Christian minority no longer feeling insecure about their fundamental rights due to discrimination. “Islam has no space for extremism, fundamentalism or obscurantism, and those who happen to be extremists are in fact unaware of the real spirit of Islam.” The ceremony emphasized that peace and love and respect should be extended to all of the communities of Pakistan.
