A Visit to St. Mary Old Age Home, by Abhigyane Foundation on Mahatma Gandhi's 148 Birth Anniversary
Gandhi ji said, "In a gentle way, you can shake the world.”
Gandhi’s philosophy was not purely based on theory; instead he lived by rules of pragmatism. He practiced what he preached every day of his life.
What an inspiring, authentic way to live.
The Old Age Home Visit:
The place is, of course, like home. The residents have all the facilities for routine living, like food, clothing, and shelter.
All these necessities are well looked-after, but the much-needed love, and care of loved ones, is, of course, sadly missing. In these homes, it is very interesting and even touching to talk to people, whether they are men or women.
They do get their daily needs fulfilled, but from where will the love of the dear ones come? The stories of almost all the old people are the same and very dismal.
One old woman cried as she told us how she used to sacrifice everything for her children and her children's gift to her in return was to throw her in the old-age home, never to visit her. They all long to return to their homes and live with their families. They feel cheated after all the years of love and care they have given to their children, but their children seem to have left them to their fate.
We tried to make them happy through spending time with them. They need only love; nothing else.
