The First Female Kuna Deputy

Petita will make great efforts to make visible the reality of her Indigenous people.

The First Female Kuna Deputy

Sister Petita Ayarza, the first female Kuna Deputy, assumed her position at the national level in Panama City, Panama on 30th July 2019. The members of CC Mukua (also known as Mujeres Kunas Artesanas Cooperation Circle, or URI member group) express their congratulations to Sister Petita Ayarza with her alternate, Lic. Alexix Alvarado, for this new challenge.

The members of the CC Mukua believe that the new deputy has a lot of work to do to change the social reality of the inhabitants of the Guna Yala region, especially in matters related to education and health. This is because there are care centers, but there are no supplies or medicines to serve Indigenous communities. However, Petita will make great efforts to make visible the reality of her Indigenous people.

This information was sent by Fany Ávila, former global councilor, and member of CC Mukua.
