Over Guru Poornima weekend, July 12-14, 2019, the LOTUS Center for all Faiths (LCAF) at Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville celebrated our annual Guru Poornima Interfaith Light of Truth Universal Service and Interfaith Programs. This year’s theme, Caring for Creation, was inspired by the current climate crisis.
At the Light of Truth Universal Service, on the morning of July 13, we invited celebrants from 11 Faiths to come and light a central candle together and offer a prayer from their respective tradition. The prayer offerings were made toward a central candle, on our Interfaith altar, which represents the Divine Light common to all faiths and peoples throughout the world. The goal of this service is to bring all present closer to the Divine Light and Peace in each of us, and to share this Light and Peace with the world.
In the afternoon Interfaith Programs, we held breakout discussion groups organized into three categories: Abrahamic Faiths, Faiths of India, and Nature-based Faiths. The groups addressed the following topics on the theme of Caring for Creation:
- Voice your concerns about caring for our planet, each other, and all life forms.
- How does your faith or spirituality address your concerns?
- How can we maintain our peace while caring for creation via prayer or direct action?
