On Sunday, December 8, Mother's Day was celebrated in Panama so the members of the Mukua Cooperation Circle (Mujeres Kunas Artesanas, a URI member group) met to pay tribute to Fany Ávila. This took place three months after her physical disappearance. Fany Ávila was the director of the Asociación Indígena Ambiental and a strong advocate for the rights of Indigenous women in biodiversity conservation.
The event happened with the interpretation of the Uskalu Dance Group, who made the Traditional Guna dance for about 75 women in attendance, together with all the residents of the Koskuna Community in Panama City.
