In East India, URI members are heading an initiative to strengthen communities through food and mutual understanding. Struggling under the pandemic, many families have lost their livelihoods and are relying on charitable donations for food. Instead of stopping at delivering donations alone, URI volunteers are building a “garland of humanity” from “pearls of compassion.”
Each family that receives food agrees to personally deliver the next donation to a family of a different faith tradition and engage in a small conversation – something that almost never happens between different religions on its own. Hindus, Muslims, and others were surprised and overjoyed to find these acts of compassion coming from people they once considered so different from themselves.
Not only did the donations fill stomachs – they also filled hearts. Learn more and see a video here.
