On December 2nd, URI Europe hosted an engaging and impactful community call focused on violence prevention in the European region. The event brought together participants from various European countries, including Turkey, the United Kingdom, Russia, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Austria, Albania, Belgium, and Germany, as well as guests from the URI Global Office in the USA.
The meeting featured insightful contributions from global and regional URI members, fostering a collaborative space to address one of the most pressing issues of our time.
The call welcomed diverse voices, including colleagues from the URI Global Office, Karen Volker, Director of Partnership and Violence Prevention, and Larissa Abaunza, Human and Women's Rights Manager, who introduced the health approach to violence prevention. Karen emphasized the contagious nature of violence, supported by neuroscience and epidemiological insights, and shared proactive measures to address it, such as using credible messengers and strategic programming.
Participants also discussed the intersection of cultural norms and violence.
Also, URI UK representatives shared about their activities related to violence prevention that were organized as part of the UK Interfaith Week.
URI Europe expressed gratitude for the active participation and looks forward to continuing the discussion in future meetings, offering more space to delve deeper into regional and global strategies for addressing violence.
