Mitigating Land-Based Conflicts in Northern Uganda

Created in partnership with the Acholi Religious Leaders Peace Initiative in 2012, this guide to mediating land-based disputes emerged in the aftermath of northern Uganda’s civil war – when one out of every four former combatants and other displaced persons returning to their homes became locked in a battle over land claimed by someone else. Members of URI’s Great Lakes Region of Africa staff, who participated in the 2012 mediation sessions designed to end those disputes, developed this guide as both a training tool and a reference for others engaged in resolving conflicts over land.
