Youth in Nkhata Bay range from ages 15 to 28 years old. Although schooling for these youth has been excellent under their circumstances, there is very little access for them to further education once they finish school. Youth who finish high school go out into the fields, harvest beans and other crops, and help tend the small farming enterprises of their parents. They have dreams for a different future and look forward to continue with university studies, but have no immediate hope of achieving that ambition. The concept of this Cooperation Circle (CC) is the one thing that gives participants purpose and the hope of creating a more positive future and making a difference. Youth realize that by working for the community in a selfless way, their lives matter and have an impact.
This CC has sustained a good pace, expanded and continuously impacts their environment and community. Among their most memorable actions are a sanitation cleanup at a hospital, a cleanup of a prison, and the distribution of food and soap to prisoners of that prison. Members are looking forward to continue cleanups at the hospital and local market place. They also dig pit latrines at the market place.
