Voem was founded in 1992 as an organization based in Belgium that is committed to connecting people and organizations without borders through art, culture, and social engagement. Voem believes in the positive power of socio-culture and the value of reconnecting with the interfaith community.
In the 30 years of work and impact, Voem has focused on using arts, community building, media, Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue as key strategic areas to fulfilling their mission. With support from partners, volunteers, and other organizations, they organize creative, innovative, and interconnecting socio-cultural activities that embrace unity.
They have designed activities like; International Iftar where people from all walks of life are welcome to eat together; created an interactive platform called Slam Alekum where people reflect on their society and communicate through slam poetry, storytelling, and rap; Created a safe space called We need to talk about it, where citizens can dialogue together on issues that seem neglected; Shaped the Beyond the lines platform, where artists talk about activism through murals, workshops, and exhibitions; Voem also organises the Emancipation prize that recognises individuals and organisations who have contributed to an inclusive and sustainable society; They created Veggie Halal, a platform for people enthusiastic about vegetarian food; They organise workshops and inter-religious dialogues.
Even with the growing and unfortunate cases of homophobia in Belgium, Voem still believes in building bridges between different faiths. This organization hopes to bridge the gaps between various religions and faiths, including; Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, Sikhs, Orthodox, Sufis, Hindus, Buddhists, Quakers, Judaism, Liberal New Spiritualism.
They hope to reach and impact over 1 million people. They also envision the world that is aware and using their online space; metaverse. In addition, they anticipate inspiring the new generation.
