Burundi has had conflicts since 1965, and they have been recurrent. The National Coalition of Religions and Community Together gathers a group of more than 50 members from more than 7 different religions and indigenous traditions that tries to find the underlying solutions to the problems Burundi faces. Together, for more than ten years, they have mobilized the young people in Bujumbura slums to stop the destruction of properties and killing of humanity. They have supported building houses for the poor and needy people of Bubanza-Buramata. They contributed to an increase in the life expectancy, supporting over 100 women infected by HIV/AIDS at Kanyosha suburb. They also increased access to education by enrolling about 120 orphans into school in the Rutana and Gatumba. The Coalition created a Center of Dialogue to end Religious Violence which resulted in different groups being able to meet easily, without fear, throughout the communities of Bujumbura slums. They have been supplying clean water to address the problem of water-borne diseases in Rweza since 2008. They have established micro-enterprises to provide loans to about 100 people, which has resulted in economic empowerment and self-sufficiency within the target community. Their hope for the future is to make a strong group of peaceful partners to change the country so that it becomes an environment of peace, justice, and healing for all Burundi citizens and beyond. In so doing, they want to ensure community development, as there is no peace-building without development.
