Sherif (pictured above), a journalist, radio host and member of the Tolerance Cooperation Circle in Cairo, Egypt, met recently with members of the Andalus Institute for Tolerance and Anti-Violence Studies, an independent research institution that emphasizes the values of tolerance and citizenship in aiding the development of Egyptian and Arabic societies.

“The group addresses two problems that are going on in Cairo right now: hate speech, and the fact that members of the new generation of Christians and Muslims do not know each other very well,” Sherif told members of URI’s Global Council and Staff during their recent face-to-face gathering in San Francisco.  “We are trying to find ways to work together (with the Andalus Institute) to provide training on issues like coexistence, tolerance and teambuilding. And because these young people have the potential to become leaders, they’ll be able to train other people as well.”

Sherif introduced Andalus Institute members to URI and its founding Purpose, Preamble and Principles.  He hopes to meet again with members of the group in the near future.
