The Huddersfield Interfaith Council, located in West Yorkshire, Northern England, has elected URI Global Chair Kiran Bali as its new president.

The Council fosters relationships between people of different faiths, as well as those without faith, so that they can work together to raise the levels of religious awareness and literacy in Huddersfield.

The Council works towards racial and religious equality in all areas of life, as well as working to influence decision making in all areas of public life by forming links through statutory and voluntary bodies.

“Dialogue between and within faiths, along with people of all backgrounds, has never been more important,” Kiran said.

“Huddersfield is a modern multi-faith and multi-cultural society with people of diverse backgrounds. We must work together to create a sense of community underpinned by the values of mutual respect and trust. We have a powerful collective voice that we can harness to make a real difference regardless of ethnic or religious background.

"Together, we have a common purpose to advance the contribution of faith communities, to encourage partnerships, and to challenge injustice and discrimination.”
