Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Sikh community,

I would like to extend many congratulations on this important day of Vaisakhi and the founding of the Khalsa. Vaisakhi also marks the beginning of the harvest festival.

There are a number of beautiful street processions (Nagar Kirtans) taking place around the world enriching the spirit of brotherhood and joy amongst all communities.

May this Vaisakhi bring more peace and happiness into our lives.

Best wishes,

Dear Kiran Sushil and URI Sikh Community,

Wish you all Happy Vaisakhi!

I agree with Suhshil said, Who love humanity. We all who are spreading the URI PPP are sending love, light and hope for peace around the world. In Pakistan the update of celebration of Vaiski are as under.

The Punjabi New Year, Baisakhi is a way of showing gratitude towards God for a good harvest season. Vaisakhi is also celebrated on the same day with pomp and fervour marking Khalsa Panth, which was established by the tenth Sikh leader, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. After Guru Gobind Singh declared that the Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhs to be treated as the everlasting Guru, Sikhs started celebrating Vaisakhi. Thousands of Sikh pilgrims have arrived at Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib in Hassanabdal to celebrate the Baisakhi festival. Around 2,000 pilgrims have come from India apart from hundreds of others FATA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of Punjab. The festivities include recitation from Guru Garanth Sahib. Islamabad.

Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has made all the arrangements for the pilgrims. Over 1,000 policemen have been deployed to provide security to Gurdwara and the yatrees.

Apart from Gurdwara Panja Sahib, the festival is also celebrated at other gurdwaras in Nanka Sahib and Lahore.

The festival is also celebrated by Hindus and Buddhists for different reasons including the start of a new year. People in the Punjab region regard Besakhi as a harvest festival and the Punjabi new year.

Every year the festival brings together hundreds of Sikh devotees from across the border in a celebration welcoming the spring season. The event helps increase cultural understanding and develop people-to-people ties between the two neighbouring countries.
