URI Embraces Beauty for Peacebuilding

28 October 2016

Before images and feelings fade and driving digital busyness jumps back in, I want to celebrate beauty-makers and beauty-lovers in URI.

The recent URI Europe Assembly at The Silence Farm Cooperation Circle in Damme, Belgium offered the gift of beauty as the heart of our work together. A gorgeous bouquet of flowers was picked from the garden and placed at the center of our circle. Votive candles commemorating The Peace Bell Tower in Lienz, Austria encircled the bouquet. The meeting room itself was ab architectural work of art that brought in calming views of nearby fields and the flowing of light of each day. We walked outside in tenderly cared-for flower and herb gardens.

Trustworthy friendship, deep commitment, faith, creativity, singing together, hard work, honesty, reliable communication, strategic planning, and wise financial management are all needed for URI peacebuilding work to go on and on... Today, let us be reminded of the power of beauty to sustain us and our efforts for peace.
