The Weekly Shot: Changing Pakistani Mothers' Lives

For Mother’s Day, United Religions Initiative Pakistan created a sewing center for women in Sharaqpur Sharif, a conservative town in Punjab province where there are many who support the spread of Sharia law. The sewing center will teach local women the necessary skills to support themselves and their families, giving them better opportunities to lead independent and fulfilled lives.

Since 2006, URI Pakistan has been involved with maintaining 13 sewing centers in slums and rural areas of Pakistan. Success stories of local women becoming self-supporting are common.
