Community leaders from North Macedonia were hosted on Oct 18 at the URI Global Support Office. The interfaith group represented the Macedonian Orthodox Church, the Jewish community, the Bektashi Sufi community, and the Muslim and Methodist communities. Their trip to the US, entitled “21st Century Changemakers: Religious Freedom in the US and the Role of Religious Narratives in Society,” was sponsored by the International Visitor Program with the US Department of State.
Bishop William Swing and Sally Mahé spoke about URI and connected with their concerns and questions regarding interfaith “bottom-up” organizing and their aspirations to strengthen social cohesion. Serendipitously, URI Europe had recently hosted a very successful assembly in Orid, North Macedonia, and we were able to connect our visitors with people involved in interfaith community development activity back home. Many thanks to Kathrine Lehman for providing lovely hospitality!
