The Weekly Shot: Once Shunned, Women Are Welcomed Inside

A group of HIV-positive women in Mumbai, India, once shunned by their communities and reluctant to step outside, were given a tour of multiple faiths' houses of worship and welcomed inside each one, thanks to two URI member groups - Beyond Sarhad and Sanmitra Mahila Mandal. In addition to learning about the diversity and inclusiveness of their community, the women were able to connect with their own faith traditions for the first time in many years.

URI West India Regional Coordinator Qutub Jehan Kidwai shared, "They thanked URI for valuing them and for making them feel that they are important to the world." The URI groups plan to organize more tours in the future.
