Mentored by the Sanmitra Trust based in Malvani, Sanmitra Mahila Mandal has worked for over 15 years training women in the community to promote interfaith dialogue, maintain communal harmony, resist violence against women and achieve economic empowerment of women. Members believe intolerance, extremism, and violence-based ideologies are the biggest impediments in the path of growth and development of India. They identify women as the leaders of the change, so their work is focused on vulnerable women.
Sanmitra Mahila Mandal is economically empowering women in Malvani slum through market-oriented skills and training of a micro-entrepreneurship development program. It is also promoting women-led Health clubs for regular diagnostic screening and disease control for women and their families, and it has also opened a University study center.
Sanmitra succeeded in putting an end to the AIDS epidemic in Malvani slums, and bagged Best Performance Trophy for this achievement in 2010. Also in 2017, the world CSR congress felicitated Sanmitra Trust and conferred Certificate of Merit for its sustained and prolonged work of women’s empowerment in the community
