Bishop William Swing, warmly remembers Arch McClure. “Before there was a President's Council or a Senior Advisory Council, there was Arch McClure. He saw the potential of URI, and right away, he jumped into our life and leadership. He got so caught up that he researched the various religions of the world, did his own independent thinking about their compatibility and wrote a compelling book on the future of interfaith. In URI's infancy, at our darkest moment financially, he stepped up and made a gift that lifted us out of a large hole. For many years after that, Arch was an anchor of support to URI in various ways. Plus, he was such a thoughtful and cheerful presence.”
In retirement, Arch served on the Board of Directors for the Quaker Oats Company. Holiday Inn, First Illinois Bank and Sciaky Brothers. In addition to URI, he supported several charitable, educational and religious organizations. Arch and his wife Anne visited the URI San Francisco office frequently and always offering big smiles and good cheer. Arch is fondly remembered for his steady generosity, bright curiosity and ongoing encouragement. He is warmly welcomed to URI’s Celestial CC.
