URI invites people everywhere to value their own urge to do good: see a need, reach out, cooperate and create ways to help.
URI imagines a world where values and teaching of the world’s faith traditions guide people’s service and where people respect one another’s beliefs.
In URI, we see people giving their best for “the other” and building up one another.
When we really see one another in this way, we light up together!
Among hundreds of thousands of actions by URI members through the years Here are a few recent sparks:
- “Members of the Karonga Nthola CC in Malawi brought essential items to vulnerable disabled people. “We felt it was important as team to show them compassion, kindness, love and spending time with them.”
- Amid a rising level of religious prejudice in India, “two URI members from different backgrounds came together for the first time at the East India URI Assembly. Each came with their own strong religious beliefs, and they found common ground in a simple and profound act of sharing a meal.”
- Pakigdait CC Mindanao Philippines convened peace conversations among 50 diverse participants including fisherfolk, farmers, political reps, faith leaders, people with disabilities, youth, LGBTQIA+, indigenous and more. “Through a shared safe space. Participants were listened to as they explored unique experiences and perspective on human dignity. With local artists, participants turned their perspectives into beautiful art forms lifted from their everyday definitions of human dignity.”
- “Together We Thrive – Young Leaders Shape URI Europe’s Future” – a call for Europe’s Young Leaders. “We will focus on youth, mentorship, youth-led initiatives and opportunities for networking with URI Europe.”
Light drives away darkness. Stories from the URI network beam across social media, elists, what’s app, regional and global websites. Look for them!
As 2024 draws to a close, nurture your own heart and soul by looking for enduring, daily sparks of human goodness and positive action. Find them, feel uplifted, share these stories far and wide. Remember the words of HH Dalai Lama:
Never give up
No matter what is happening
No matter what is going on around you
Never give up
