Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue

“We listen and speak with respect to deepen mutual understanding and trust.” - URI Principle 5
SunDABT CC inviting interfaith dialogue

URI Cooperation Circles must include members of at least three different religions or traditions. By engaging in respectful conversations, members learn, share and build bridges of understanding.

Examples of our work in this Action Area:

  • Sun Devils Are Better Together (SunDABT), a university student group and URI Cooperation Circle, creates safe spaces for people to ask respectful questions about other religions by holding signs that read, "Meet a Muslim," "Meet a Jew," etc.

  • The URI global community celebrates UN World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) in the first week of February each year, with grassroots interfaith events in many communities.

  • Campinas CC in Brazil hosted an interfaith gathering and invited representatives of multiple religious and faith beliefs to talk about life and death from the perspectives of their own traditions.

DEVELOPING MODERN SPRITUAL PRACTICES

There are many kinds of spiritual practice.  Most of them are derived from one of the major religions.  Spiritual practices of this kind tend to be based on teachings from one of the earlier civilizations.  Some of these practices are very profound and deserving of our attention.  On the other hand, we live in the beginnings of a global age, one which has teachings coming from different civilizations of the past and, at the same time, needing to be relevant to this age.  Each new civilization will be a combination of older teachings and teachings born of the age now coming into being.  It is in the integration of past, present, and future that a civilization gains its completeness.

Intra-faith Gathering

Children of the Earth invites you to attend a one day International Intra-faith Gathering. Through the gathering, we hope to bring together youth from various backgrounds and faiths to be able to open up, share and learn with other participants through group interaction, guest speakers, a meditation class, games, a documentary film showing, and much more. Dr. Kul Chandra Gautam, former Assistant Secretary General of the UN and Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF will be the guest speaker.
