The third sector of Brazilian society counts with almost seven million active OSCIPs, according to the Map of Organizations of Civil Society of 2020, from the Instituto de Pesquisas Econômica Aplicada/IPEA. Legal qualification as OSCIP has existed since 1999. Members of OSCIP are social organizations that operate in areas of public interest, and therefore can receive financing from both the private (mercantile) sector and public administration organizations, through the celebration of partnerships.. The objective of the Confederation of Civil Society Organizations of Public Interest is to articulate cooperation and promote the integration of the Third Sector into the economy of the country, collaborating to improve the dignity and quality of life of the Brazilian people. The Confederation System is also cooperative, governed by the Federal Law.
OSCIP/BR is responsible for representing and assisting more than 6000 civil society organizations in Brazil.
