Quested Peace CC helps refugees in Jordan

URI Cooperation Circles use a variety of strategies to try to help redress economic injustices in many parts of the world. 

Examples of our work in this Action Area:

  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, URI member groups around the world have launched into action making and distributing sanitary supplies, bringing food and necessary items door-to-door to families in need, providing emotional support, and helping those most affected by the disaster.
  • In Nigeria, the Center for Environmental Education and Development helps small farmers retain the rights to their farmland when corporations and mining companies try to take it away.
  • Action for Girijan Development, in Bhadrachalam, India, has filed 24 legal cases for compensation on behalf of exploited tribal women, and provides self-help and career skills training.
  • In the Africa Great Lakes region, Latter Glory of Religions in Busoga CC members teach families the importance of sending girl children to school along with their brothers, breaking the cycle of poverty for women and allowing them to pursue careers, which enriches the community as a whole.

URI's 15th Anniversary Reflections

On June 27, 2015, URI will celebrate its 15th anniversary, as part of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations celebration at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, California. During this exciting time, members of the URI community are reflecting on what it means to be a part of a growing peacebuilding organization.

A Noble Beginning in 2015 - PEACE CC extends helping hand to disabled students

It was indeed a noble beginning for PEACE CC this year, as it extended valuable help to handicapped students. The brain behind this was Maitri, the dynamic youth of our CC.

Last month, during our meeting, Maitri Tanna, an active youth member of PEACE CC (Multiregion) came up with an innovative idea of mass collection of old newspapers, old paper boxes and selling them to earn some money and use the money to help two handicapped students attending school. She wanted to begin the New Year with a noble cause. As the old papers goes for recycling in a way this also helps towards environment cause, she said.
